Prepare a packing slip online with printing, transmission, and pickup options.

Click here to use the Packing Slip feature.

The following information provides a step-by-step guide on how to use this feature as well as a list of common questions.

Step by Step Guide

Completing a Packing Slip

Requester Affiliation

  1. In the “Requester Affiliation” section, enter your affiliation to the shipment. If you are shipping freight, select the “Shipper” checkbox. If you are receiving the shipment, select the “Consignee” checkbox.
  2. You may provide a location by entering the company name, address, city, state, zip, and country for the shipper and consignee.

Shipment Items

  1. In the “Shipment Items” section, you can enter the PO number and related order line items information.  Information for each line item should be entered based on units.  For example, if a customer orders 2 boxes, each weighing 50 lbs and having a price of $50, input 50 lbs into Unit Wgt and $50 into Unit Price.  The tool will keep a running total weight for all the PO/Order Line Items in the “Shipment Specifics” section. The tool will also automatically calculate the amount for this line item (2 boxes X $50 = $100 amount).
  2. You have the ability to add additional PO’s and Order Line Items.  You may enter up to 20 POs. Each PO number may have up to 5 individual line items.  You may add a PO number by clicking “Add PO” and may remove a PO by clicking “Remove PO”.  You may add items under a PO number by clicking “Add Line Item” and may remove line items by clicking “Remove Line Item”.
  3. Remember none of these fields are required, however, in order to allow the tool to automatically calculate shipment weight and amount, it is advisable to provide as much information as possible.

Shipment Specifics

  1. You can enter specific information about the shipment, including Order #, Customer #, Order Date, Ship Date, Freight Terms, # of Handling Pieces, and BOL #, if available.  You can select the date(s) by centering the date or by clicking on the calendar icon and selecting the date.
  2. You may also change the Total Weight field.  This field will already contain a value based on the information supplied in the “Shipment Items” section.
  3. You can also enter information such as Contact Person, Contact Phone #, and special instructions associated with the shipment.
  4. Click the “Create Packing Slip” button to view your packing slip. If you have selected to create shipping labels, they will be generated at this time.

Common Questions

How can I use my templates or previous packing slips?

You must logon to the ABF Web site with your ABF account number and password. If you need a password, follow the link on the home page to the password request page or contact your ABF Sales Representative.

Do I need to enter information for every field?

No. Only fields indicated in red and marked with an asterisk are required. Also, the tool will let you know if you have left something out.

Can I create a bill of lading or submit a pickup request after I complete the packing slip?

Yes. After you create a packing slip you may click on the “Create a BOL” or "Request a Pickup" button to go to the respective form.

Can I send a packing slip to someone or to an ABF Service Center?

Yes. In the Copy section check the box that applies to that person's affiliation with the shipment. If they are not the Shipper, Consignee, or Third Party you may also enter their e-mail address in the field provided.

What is the Adobe PDF format?

PDF is Adobe's Portable Document Format that must be viewed with Adobe Acrobat Reader.  This is the format that your packing slip will be created in. This format allows you to print a clearer packing slip.

How can I fax a copy of my Packing Slip?

You can send a fax of your Packing Slip by clicking Internet Explorer's "File" menu (Alt-F) and selecting the "Print" (CTL-P) option. You must previously set you printer options to point to your fax machine.

What if I do not know the zip code or the exact name of a city?

In all sections of the ABF Web site that require a location entry, you may provide a zip code or the city/state combination. If you do not know the zip code or the exact spelling of the city, simply enter the first few letters of the city and select the state. After you submit the form, you will be given a list of city/state combinations to select from that match your entry.
