What is Dynamic Rerouting?

“With Dynamic Rerouting, an ABF customer can redirect a shipment to a new destination without speaking to anyone. It's almost like the customer is driving the truck. Some day, many of our competitors will offer some of this flexibility. At ABF, it is all available today.”

Bob Davidson, President & CEO, ABF Freight System, Inc.
January 7, 2000

Dynamic Rerouting is another example of ABF’s long history of innovation. The tool enables you to change the destination point of an in-transit shipment via abf.com. Shipments en route can also be recalled and returned to the origin. ABF's internal systems automatically issue the rerouting instructions to the proper ABF facility based upon the current location of the shipment within the ABF system. With Dynamic Rerouting, ABF also provides an e-mail confirmation of the reconsignment and a statement of the revised charges.

How does it work?

Rerouting a shipment is quick and easy from abf.com. From the tool itself, you simply enter an ABF pro number and click Submit (1). You can also reroute a shipment from tracking (2) or a status report (3).

On the reroute request form, provide your contact information (4), the new destination (5), and any additional comments that may assist ABF in meeting your needs (6). You may also review the current freight invoice for the shipment (7). Click Submit to send your request to ABF.

ABF typically responds by e-mail within one hour (7:00am - 2:00am Central Time, Monday thru Friday). Our e-mail reply confirms the request and provides revised charges. The rerouting occurs at the first possible opportunity within the ABF system.

This transaction serves as a corrected bill of lading. Amended linehaul charges and reconsignment fees are applied to the bill accordingly.
